CTI was approached to develop custom hardware for the monitoring of water pulse meters and RS485 energy meters.
In addition to the monitoring and logging of these utilities, the board also needed to communicate back to a central server over distances that in practice could be hundreds of meters away.
To achieve these ranges the meters needed the ability to participate in a wireless mesh. By ‘hopping’ messages from meter to meter, its possible for a device several hundred meters from the server to relay a message back to the server via intermediate meters in between.
CTI developed a flexible solution that catered to a wide range of wireless technologies (Bluetooth Mesh, Thread, Zigbee) and was resilient enough to survive the harsh operating conditions these meters are typically subjected to.
For our client, CTI provided support through the entire process from initial concept, through design, to prototyping and eventually to mass production. CTI learnt a wealth of knowledge along this project and are thankful to have had the opportunity to work on such an exciting system.
